The EMMSTech board is, once again, delighted to announce the winners of the 2021 EMMSTECH SCHOLARSHIP. A scholarship created to support the education of Women of Color in technology, both for young women at the start of their education, or those transitioning in their careers. 💻🙎🏾♀️
🙌🏽 Let us introduce you to Emelie Cruz. After studying and working as a social worker, she decided to change careers. While she enjoyed working with children, she felt there was little room for growth in the industry.
Her steps into tech started with night courses on Frontend development led by Binnette Seck at Changers Hub. Binette, sounds familiar? Yes! It’s Binnette Seck: IT woman of the year 2021 by CGI and Universum.
Back to Emelie, her current education has led her to start her professional journey by working as an IT assistant alongside her studies. Her main aspiration is to advocate for other youths to get into tech.
🙌🏾 Our second introduction for today is Mahlet Ambaw, an Ethiopian mom and student living in Sweden. While young, she became interested in computers, but it wasn't easy in her country, so she chose to focus on something else: Business Management.
When she first moved to Sweden to study for her master's degree, she wanted to specialize in her interests, but she didn't have the necessary background. Nevertheless, Information Security at Stockholm University accepted more diverse backgrounds of studies, so she decided to go for it!
Mahlet is currently studying Frontend at Hyper Island and sees herself starting her own business in 5 years. She will be using her money for courses she wants to take and software she wants to buy—a new computer as well.
